What timing! Right when I’m trying to abolish the evil stepmom notion, Disney decides to release a new Cinderella! Really? Is this what we need? No! What we need are TV shows depicting realistic blended family situations; we need movies showing stepmoms dealing with bio moms; we need talk shows supporting stepparents. We don’t need another animated version of Cinderella starring a conniving, selfish stepmom. Not again!
There are over 14 million stepmoms who love and care for their stepchildren. Women who have chosen to marry a man with children, and who then help raise those children. These stepmoms want what’s best for the new children in their lives. But for some reason, there is so little support. There are few TV shows and movies offering a look into the blended family world. There are no talk shows supporting, encouraging, and giving advice for stepparents. And even though there is nothing for us stepmoms that shows the love we feel, Disney decides to show the hatred of Stepmoms by remaking Cinderella. On a brighter side, I suppose kids going in to see the movie will at least be able to say, “Wow! I sure am lucky with my stepmom!”
