Where Were Stepmom Podcasts 20 Years Ago When I needed Them??

Well, I’m glad they’re here now! I’ve really enjoyed being interviewed on these much needed and supportive stepmom podcasts! It is definitely therapeutic to talk with and to read about others going through similar experiences. LA Times Book Festival!

Writers’ Festival!

Just a reminder to come see me at the Writers’ Festival on December 11th and 12th at the E.P. Foster Library in downtown Ventura.

My Book is in Bookstores!

My book, Stepping into a New Role, Stories from Stepmoms, is now officially being carried in three bookstores! One of them, Timbre Books, in Ventura on Main Street, is new. And growing! Bank of Books has been in Ventura for many, many years, and the Book Worm, in Camarillo, opened in 1973. I love that these bookstores support local authors. How cool is that? And how cool is it that bookstores still exist? 😀

Podcast Episode 7: Empowering Kids

Take a listen to our new podcast on the importance of empowering children. Encouraging our children to do things on their own can be challenging for parents. It makes sense. When they were first born we had to do everything for them. Sometimes it’s hard to know when to step back and let them do for themselves. We have to discern what they are developmentally ready to accomplish. This can be easier for a stepparent because we did not raise them from the start. We can often be more objective. Even so, letting go can be hard for any parent, so we often just continue to do everything for them. This is doing a disservice to our kids. When they do for themselves, they are empowered. When they are empowered, they thrive.
